Canadians moving to Alberta in record numbers with affordability being a key factor.

The Alberta population increased by 184,400 for the 12 months ending June 30, 2023. This exceeded the previous record from 2013 which was 106,600.

Alberta continues to lead the country in overall % growth and inter-provincial migration.

Defenition - Property Taxes

Property Taxes

Property taxes are fees levied by local governments on the owners of real estate properties, such as homes, land, and commercial buildings. These taxes are a primary source of revenue for municipalities and are used to fund various public services and infrastructure, including schools, roads, parks, emergency services, and more.

The amount of property tax an owner owes is usually determined by the property's assessed value, which is an estimate of its worth based on factors like location, size, and overall condition. The local government sets a tax rate, often expressed as a percentage of the assessed value, and this rate is applied to the assessed value to calculate the property tax bill.

In Edmonton, you can estimate the property taxes to be between 1+ % of the home's assessed value.

Property taxes are typically paid annually or semi-annually and can vary significantly from one area to another. Property owners need to understand their property tax obligations, as these taxes are an ongoing financial responsibility associated with property ownership.
